Brazil has been the world's largest exporter of chicken meat for many years, shipping to well over a hundred countries. For importers, that means deep supply, competitive prices and a wide choice of cuts.
What makes Brazil competitive
- Large, integrated producers that control feed, farms, slaughter and freezing
- Abundant corn and soybean for feed
- Export plants concentrated in the southern states of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, close to the ports of Paranaguá, Itajaí and Santos
- A federal inspection system (SIF) recognised by importing countries
The SIF system
Every export plant is registered with the Federal Inspection Service of the Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA). Federal veterinarians supervise slaughter and sign the health certificate for each container. The SIF number on the carton tells you exactly which plant produced the product.
What buyers should check
- That the plant is eligible for your country (GACC for China, EU listing for Europe, national lists elsewhere)
- Halal certification if you sell to Muslim consumers
- Packing, weights and labelling in your language
- Who you pay — the contract party should be the company named on the invoice
Working with a trader
Large Brazilian producers usually sell to established importers in big volumes. A trading company with reserved quotas, like MARYTHUR LTD, gives smaller and mid-sized importers access to the same plants with flexible volumes. Browse our frozen chicken range.
